Fitness, gymnastics & JRFH

The Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run or PACER is a test of physical fitness and mental toughness like no other.  Unlike sprinting fast for a short time or running a 5k or longer distance at a moderate pace the PACER test forces the participants to speed up each minute until they can no longer keep up with the pace.  We have run this test at all ages for the past 4 years at East Oakview.  During that time I have kept a "Record Board" of the top male and female scores in each grade level.  The 3rd and 4th grade records were all broken this year but the K-2 records remain safe.  A gifted group of athletes is leaving East this year and I hope we can build more in the coming years.

After the excitement of PACER week we moved into a week of gymnastics.  Gymnastics is one of my favorite activities to teach.  Balance, coordination, body control, flexibility and strength are the basic necessities for all human movement and sport.  I'm so happy that the students look forward to these lessons as much as I do.

For the past 21 years East Oakview has helped raise funds for people and families with sick hearts by participating in the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.  This year East will celebrate the end of the 21st fundraising campaign with a JRFH event at Highlands Middle School on Saturday, March 5th from 2-4pm.  The event is open to anyone from the East Oakview community that would like to take part in heart healthy activities and celebrate another great fundraising year.  Here are some videos of students practicing jump rope activities.
